Turmeric Latte

Here’s a recipe you’re gonna wanna bookmark. If you’ve just had a baby and have a friend coming over to give you a hand, share this recipe with them; ask them to make it for you.

It’s got all the things you need when you’re healing:

Anti-inflammatory goodness
Protein/amino acids
A good healthy source of fat
Spices that will keep you warm inside
A touch of sweetness for your soul

If you don’t know what turmeric is - it’s a yellowy/orangey coloured root from south Asia, known for its healing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties. If you’ve ever had Indian or south Asian food, you’ve very likely had turmeric. It’s also a tremendously popular supplement, used in natural treatment protocols for the joints, liver, brain, heart, you name it.

I like including it in my cooking often. The active healing ingredient in turmeric, called curcumin, is best absorbed with a sprinkle of black pepper, which is why you’ll see that in the recipe below. The coconut milk, as a source of good healthy fat, also helps to absorb curcumin.

Some might call this golden milk, or simply turmeric milk...but I like turmeric latte better. :)

Make this your own. Make it spicy, make it sweet. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon unflavoured collagen powder
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground ginger
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 cup water
½ cup coconut milk
Raw unpasteurized honey to taste

Instructions:

Measure all ingredients, except honey, into a small saucepan. Turn on medium heat and using a fork or whisk, stir often. Bring up to boiling or just under the boiling point, depending how hot you want it. Optional: use a hand/immersion blender at this point, to make it a little more creamy and blended like a latte. Pour into a large mug. Sweeten with honey.

Another way you could try making this is to boil 1 cup of water in your kettle, and mix together with all the other ingredients in a blender. I often boil the water and then mix it with everything directly in my mug using my hand blender, because my mug is big and wide enough for that. Do what works for you.

Here’s to warmth and healing...cheers!
